Understanding Your BEF Score

BEF = Actual Energy ÷ Essential Energy. It's a dimensionless ratio — a pure number, not a letter grade.

A perfect score. Every kWh you spent was essential to the work the system performed — zero waste.

You spent more energy than the work required. A BEF of 2.0 means half of your energy was at risk of being saved.

Why no ranges?

Unlike EUI, BEF is technology-independent and automatically adjusts for changes in production, weather, and operating conditions. We don't classify scores into "good" or "poor" because there is not yet a large enough population of benchmarked facilities to define what is typical for each system type. BEF is a measurement, not a grade.
